Article from Nature: Future crops: The other greenhouse effect

http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v448/n7153/full/448526a.html Future crops: The other greenhouse effect Rising carbon dioxide levels should increase crop yields. But what if their effect on the nutritional value of our food is less benign, asks Ned Stafford. When you step into a commercial greenhouse, the chances are you are stepping into the future. To plants, carbon dioxide is food, and greenhouse operato… Continue

starting a small gasifier build

Since I got alot of time on my hands and too much just theory, I decided to build something as a summer project. So I will try to make an Imbert type gasifier, but for about small engine. I deducted all dimensions from 4 smallest gasifiers in the table. For 15 Nm3/h I am reasoning that a gasifier dimensions would be : 30 mm hearth diameter 190 mm vessel diameter 60 mm tuyeres-hearth distance 45mm long tuyeres 5mm diameter tuyeres ( 3 of them ) I am not sure if this is all right as I used some… Continue

The Role of Biomass in America's Energy Future

http://mitworld.mit.edu/video/343 http://engineering.dartmouth.edu/biomass/ This is an interesting lecture I found on MIT website. The speaker shows how much fuel can be made with innovation in biomass processing and agriculture. Although gasification plays a small role in the whole scheme, I think is is a good watch for everyone interested in biomass energy. But I would rather think electric vehicles as a future of transport. That is stationary electric power plants to also… Continue

Wood Fired Microturbine

Aside from running internal combustion engines on woodgas, there is a possibility of using a turbine. The only drawback is that its running at hurricane speeds. But you have fewer moving parts. I found this: http://www.gas-turbines.com/t98-nt-xx/index.html A cool site, lots of pictures and videos. These guys are actually running and making electricity. But it seems the last update is about 2 years old. Wild stuff:
