Those are great stoves. Not many of those old Standard Oil steel barrels left around. We have two of them in service. It was 45 here yesterday morning so it won't be long before that old girl will be heating up the shop. I'll try to get a picture posted of the one in the house.

Cool pics Les! A side entry fuel loading would be convenient, Ben mentioned the reason for making his lids domed was to allow moisture from the hopper hit the underside of the lid and the roll out and away from the gasifier. Though if your using charcoal or homemade bio-char I don't think moisture would be a problem.
looks good don't see why it wont work......one note that bottom ash door you want to make sure it is air tight if oxygen gets in there around those hot coals it will eat up all your gas.....look forward to seeing some photos
