Looking forward to watching this project. I've been building this house for a number of years now and it's about time to get off the grid! I am looking forward to one day meeting a few of you. I have an old Onan Gen. sitting in an old motor home just begging to run off producer gas and powering our needs. I got a pair of huge 12v batteries in good shape from a friend who services big engines.

FYI, Sam's club has 6-Volt 220-Amp-hour deep cycle batteries for around $70. By all accounts are reliable. I need about 6 to run Energy Star fridge, freezer, and 110V well pump for 20 hours of normal use discharging to ~65%.

Steve, I will measure the trees tomorrow or the next day see what I have thats seasoned. I have some oak that might be around 12". Good for flooring or cabinets.

My brother-in-law has a metal detector, I'll see if it can be borrowed for the demo house.

If any of the trees you took down are 12" diameter plus I could "volenteer" my portable saw mill for the project. It will make from 1/2"x1" up to 8"x 16" all 13 foot long. We could even resaw some of your barn timbers if you supply a metal detector.
